Ascension Borgess Hospital is a non-profit Catholic health care institution founded in Kalamazoo by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Nazareth in 1889. Resources
Parking Students and Faculty attending Borgess Medical Center for clinical rotations are asked to park in the employee parking lot in front of the hospital nearest to Gull Road or In the parking ramp (garage) Level 4 or above. DO NOT park in the lot to the eastside of the main hospital.
Badging Ascension Borgess does not issue badges to students. Students will wear their school ID as a badge at all times.
Security Security can be reached internally by dialing extension 68361. (There is a sticker on all internal phones with that number on it as a reminder) • EMERGENCY SITUATIONS can Dial 1-2-3 from internal phone • Externally, security can be reached at (269)226-8361 • Lock your vehicle and remove valuables before entering the hospital.
Dress code • Students are expected to wear the appropriate clinical outfit as determined by the educational institution attended • Absolutely NO jeans, shorts, capris, yoga pants, leggings, or sweats • No open-toed shoes or flip-flops.. Tennis shoes or other comfortable non-skid walking shoe is acceptable. • No showing of chest or belly. No inappropriate writing or pictures on clothing. • No hats or head coverings unless part of religious observation. • No visible body piercings, except earrings. • Hair should be neat and clean.
Personal Electronics You may carry your cellphone, but it should be kept on vibrate mode.• Please do not have your cellphone out, or take personal calls, during shifts in public spaces. • Notify your preceptor or faculty member if you have an important need requiring the use of your cell phone on non-break time. • No photography of any patient's or staff.
Confidentiality We protect the confidentiality of our patients at all time. HIPPA is a federal law that sets a national standard to protect medical records and other personal health information. All records, written and electronic, and all forms of communication pertaining to the patient's medical care shall be treated as confidential. •You may only access the minimum amount of patient information necessary to perform your assigned tasks. Keep your computer sign-on/passwords confidential. •DO NOT make negative, fear-promoting or embarrassing comments about its personnel in the classroom, unit assigned, or on social media. •Please keep in mind that the release of confidential information is considered a breach of confidence.
