Capital Nursing graduates are prepared to complete licensure requirements for the profession. The goal is to assist students in developing the critical thinking skills and professional judgment to enable them to make informed decisions on patient care. Students have the confidence and experience to make a positive impact on the lives they touch. Graduates are highly recruited by hospitals and healthcare systems who are aware of the rigors and standards of Capital’s Nursing program. And because Capital is a smaller campus, the 1:1 mentoring by highly qualified nursing faculty is a distinguishing feature of Capital.

Nursing students have meaningful opportunities to put skills into action, benefitting from field experiences at some of the nation’s top-ranked hospitals and health care organizations that are located just a few minutes from campus. During sophomore and junior years, students participate with and learn from great health care mentors at institutions including: the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center, the Arthur James Cancer Hospital and Research Institute, and Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Students are also active in the community by working or volunteering at places like Faith Mission, Columbus Public Schools, the Franklin County District Board of Health, Hospice Centers, and LifeCare Alliance.
First-year student requirements include a 3.0 or better cumulative high school GPA, and successful completion of Algebra II, Biology, and Chemistry as a high school student. Transfer students must have regional accreditation of prior college(s) or university(ies) and have an overall GPA of 2.75 or better in courses applied to Capital’s Nursing curriculum. Courses must have been completed in the last five years. Transfer students must also submit a letter of recommendation from the Dean of Nursing at their current institution.
Senior Nursing students have opportunities that could extend far and wide to other parts of the country and the world. Capital offers experiences for nurses to participate on weekend trips and provide healthcare to impoverished communities in Appalachia. Other students spend their spring break serving in medical clinics in Central and South America.
The baccalaureate degree program in Nursing and the master's degree program in Nursing at Capital are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Officially recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education as a national accreditation agency, the CCNE is an autonomous accrediting agency, contributing to the improvement of the public's health. CCNE ensures the quality and integrity of baccalaureate, graduate, and residency/fellowship programs in nursing.
